We offer a range of High Voltage (HV) Training Courses in four key areas. These courses can either be offered in full or they can be adapted based on customer requirements. Safety and Authorisations

Authorised Person Appreciation Training

This 2 day course provides delegates with a appreciation of the role of an Authorised Person. Delivery is through classroom based theory.

SF6 Top Up and Gas Handling

This 1 day course provides delegates with an understanding of the requirements around fluorinated gas regulations and the impact of their activities and need for compliance. Delivery is through classroom based theory.

Substation BESC / Person Training

This 1 day course is designed to provide delegates with the basic knowledge to be safe in a substation under National Grid UK Electricity Transmission 3rd Edition Safety Rules. Delivery is through classroom based theory and a visit to a training substation.

Impressed Voltage Awareness

This course provides awareness of Impressed Voltage (IV) and is delivered on our e-learning platform which uses animations and interactive exercises to aid learning.

Transmission System Training

Cables Overview

This 2 day course provides delegates with a basic understanding of cables and cable systems. Delivery is through classroom based theory.

Engineering Overview for Non-Technical Delegates

This 1 day course provides delegates with a basic overview of high voltage electrical transmission concepts; how electricity is made, what a substation is for and how it is operated. This course does not require any prior engineering knowledge. Delivery is through classroom based theory.

Overhead Line Overview

This 2 day course provides delegates with a basic knowledge and understanding of National Grid’s transmission system. Delivery is through classroom based theory.

Transmission Technical Overview

This 5 day course provides delegates with an appreciation of switchgear, transformers, overhead lines (OHL) and protection. Delivery is through classroom based theory.

Substations

HV Switchgear Busbars and Ancillary Equipment

This course provides a combination of practical activities and classroom based theory sessions aiming to provide delegates with background knowledge of substation layouts, isolator and earth switches and other equipment.

HV Switchgear: Air Blast

A practical and theory based training course that will provide delegates with foundation knowledge on all types of Substation HV Switchgear Air Blast Circuit Breakers (ABCB).

HV Switchgear: SF6

This course is aimed at providing substation Advanced Modern Apprentices with foundation knowledge on Substation HV Switchgear of the SF6 variety. The course is split into theory and practical elements and covers principles of switchgear, advantages and disadvantages, maintenance and testing, faults, and safe working practices and procedures.

Oil Circuit Breakers

A practical and theory based training course that will provide delegates with foundation knowledge on all types of substation oil circuit breakers.

Practical Earthing

Introduces delegates to reasons why we earth and give them a basic understanding of NSI 4. Delegates will practice point of work earthing and application of single and double dress earthing.

Tap Changer Appreciation

This course provides delegates with an appreciation of Tap and associated maintenance activities. Delivery is through a combination of classroom based theory and practical demonstrations using a MR type M tap changer.

Transformers

This overview course provides a balance of theory and practical tasks, which reflect the maintenance, testing and best practices carried out on site on transformers.

Overhead Lines and Cables

Basic Climbing

This course provides an appreciation of overhead line climbing and tower rescue techniques and is delivered through a combination of classroom and practical sessions.

Jointing

To provide a practical experience and appreciation of jointing conductors. To also teach hand skills in a relevant environment. The course is delivered through a combination of practical work and classroom based theory.

Maintaining Steelwork

To provide delegates with an appreciation of the basic skills required when replacing maintenance brackets, tower steelwork, tower furniture and barb wire repairs.
